The one-day workshop is aimed to raise awareness and enhance understanding of the international conventions /treaties on chemicals and waste viz. the Basel, Rotterdam, Stockholm, Minamata Conventions and Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM). The overall objective of all these conventions is “protection of human health and environment” from the possible adverse effects of hazardous chemicals. The workshop provides an overview of these conventions, highlighting their objectives, key provisions, and discuss the implementation challenges faced by countries. Production, use, sector-wise emissions, environmental monitoring and assessment of POPs, with emphasis on human health implications. The workshop also explores best practices for meeting obligations related to managing hazardous chemicals and waste, and promoting sound management chemicals. This workshop offers a valuable opportunity for participants to gain experience in these areas.
