Globally, Small Island Developing States (SIDS) represent over 66 percent of countries with the highest relative annual losses due to disasters. Due to their small economies and particular geography, SIDS are extremely vulnerable to disasters. This devastating trajectory for SIDS is set to continue in the years to come as climate change is making these disasters more frequent and intense.

FAO's support to SIDS includes integrating resilience building measures in agricultural development planning by developing capacities for disaster impact monitoring in agriculture, improving resilience and sustainability of agrifood systems and strengthening coherence between disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation processes.
 

The event
 

The Global SIDS Solutions Dialogue series is jointly organized by the FAO Liaison Offices in Brussels, Geneva, and New York, together with the FAO Office of SIDS, LDCs and LLDCs.

This second dialogue will present FAO’s support to SIDS to build the resilience of agricultural livelihoods and agrifood systems in the face of disasters and improve their ability to cope and recover. An overview of the impacts of the current global food prices situation on food security in SIDS will be presented.
