Let us get down to fundamentals and agree that mankind is the maker of all human-caused crises and our behavior is driven by human nature.
We are selfish, greedy, lazy, ignorant and vain creatures. Capitalism is based on selfishness with no regard for the public interest. Man’s greedy leads to exploiting natural resources in a very unsustainable way. Laziness and ignorance explain our inaction in the midst of global warming. Vanity causes inequality.
Obviously, the root cause of man-made crises lies deep in human nature. The good news is that we also possess bright characteristics. Empathy and kindness make charity possible. Honesty and courage enable us to pursue justice. Our curiosity and creativity lead to scientific discoveries.
I find those who care about the human future are smart and willing to sacrifice modern comforts for everyone's future by becoming a vegan, taking public transportation and so on. It's clear to me that intelligence and morality go hand in hand.
As intelligent species we are destined to evolve intellectually rather than physically. That's why making continuous improvements on our mental ability seems to be the only way of promoting the bright side of human nature over its dark side.
