Hosting the Olympics, Tokyo has deployed a set of measures to help athletes cope with the heat this summer. This issue is obviously not unique to the capital of Japan - as the world gets warmer it helps to stay cool, but doing so also contributes to the climate crisis. Using air-conditioners is far from ideal, although chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) were replaced by hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) as refrigerant in the 90s. Developed countries have begun phasing out HFCs in 2019 and developing countries will follow suit around 4 years from now.
