The call for expressions of interest is part of the Lake Chad Region Recovery and Development Project (PROLAC), funded by the World Bank. The Cameroonian government is looking for a non-governmental organization (NGO) to develop a plastic waste recycling project in Kousseri, a town in the Far North region. The plant that Cameroon wants to build will manufacture paving stones from plastic waste. NGOs interested in the project have until May 4, 2022 to apply. The selected organizations will also have to train young people in the city of Kousseri in the techniques of collecting and recycling plastic waste into paving stones for various development works, organize collection campaigns, as well as a training workshop. IDA funding According to the Cameroonian authorities, the main objective is to preserve the environment through the reduction of pollution, provide affordable and weather-resistant housing to the community and create sustainable and green jobs through the recycling of plastic waste. This initiative is part of the Lake Chad Region Recovery and Development Project (PROLAC). Launched in May 2020, the project also supports national and regional coordination platforms and local capacity building, contributes to the restoration of sustainable rural mobility and connectivity, and consolidates the resumption of income-generating agricultural activities in countries such as Cameroon, Niger and Chad.
