Call for papers: Gender, Diversity, Inclusion and Chemistry

This journal Sustainable Chemistry and Pharmacy is currently running a special issue entitled 'Gender, Diversity, Inclusion and Chemistry'.

Special issue information:

Gender and diversity inequalities are omnipresent in our societies, and their complex multidimensionality also permeates the world of chemistry, e.g., in occupational safety, academic career paths and consumption choices. Chemistry itself is a cross-cutting element in almost all human activities and has to play a key role in the transformational process of our societies to Sustainable Development, which is impossible should its structural inequalities persist. The framework of sustainable chemistry opens up possibilities to integrate principles of non-discrimination and equal opportunities, as reflected in UN Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality. However, we are only just beginning to consider what sustainable chemistry and could mean from a gender and diversity perspective. By identifying the main gaps in various chemical sectors, analyzing the current efforts for gender- and diversity-responsive management of chemicals, and developing initial thoughts on future sustainable chemistry from such perspective, this special issue on gender, diversity and chemicals aims to catalyze an inter- and transdisciplinary dialogue how sustainable chemistry could become a global framework for overcoming gender and diversity inequalities in chemistry, and beyond. It is in this spirit that we invite researchers from various disciplines (like chemistry, pharmacy, health, environment, sustainability, policy, psychology, communication, gender and cultural studies, etc.) and practitioners around the globe to submit articles focused on the interlinkages of gender, diversity and chemistry. We hope that this special issue will be a platform to publicize exceptional works but also to create an inter- and transdisciplinary network that will advocate for a gender- and diversity-just and chemical-safe, inclusive and more sustainable future.
