The first session on ‘Circular Economy and Private Sector Development’ will be held on 21 September at 15:00 (CEST). The take-make-dispose economy that has driven the world’s rapid economic growth over the past several hundred years has generated countless wealth and lifted countless individuals out of poverty. It has also generated vast amounts of harmful GHG emissions, wasted trillions of tons of valuable natural resources, and negatively impacted fragile ecosystems. The business community has started pushing back, by asking questions like, “what does good look like?” and, “why does sustainability make business sense?” In that search, many have recognised sustainability to be a judicious choice which serves economic, environmental, and societal goals. From large corporations to entrepreneurial start-ups, players within the private sector have begun embracing this transformation and business opportunity, through innovative business models, close coordination along their value chains, enhanced processes and products, and a general reevaluation of what works and why. Systems change is undoubtedly complex and requires complex solutions. Join this learning series to better understand how the private sector has and continues to make sense of these complexities and help accelerate the world’s transition toward a regenerative and circular economy.
