Every year, an estimated 11.2 billion tonnes of solid waste is collected worldwide and decay of the organic proportion of solid waste contributes about 5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Poor waste management – ranging from non-existing collection systems to ineffective disposal – causes air pollution, water and soil contamination. Open and unsanitary landfills lead to contamination of drinking water and can cause infection and transmit diseases.
The way a country manages its solid waste has significant long-term implications for public health, the economy and the environment. Therefore, it is essential to promote an environmentally sound solid waste treatment and disposal programme. Investing in greening the waste sector can generate multiple economic and environmental benefits.
Greening the waste sector primarily involves the three “R’s” – reduce, reuse and recycle – with the long-term vision being to establish a circular economy in which the use of materials and subsequent waste is limited, most unavoidable waste is recycled or remanufactured, and any remaining waste is treated so as to minimize environmental damage or even create additional value through recovering energy embedded in material or products.

"If food loss and waste were a country, it would be the third biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions.” Globally nearly a third of all food produced is wasted. The impact of this inefficiency is profound. We're aiming to tackle one part of the problem by helping consumers waste less food, which is a major part of the pie. IF you're interested in collaborating, or simply connecting we're always eager to grow our network and deepen our understanding of this issue.

Community should be taught about colour coding as well not medics alone that they may know where to place their waste whenever they visit hospitals, i found it awkward when members of the community don't know about colour coding and they are also users of the pin they are not only endangering those who will dispose but also where the waste are disposed matter alot.
Hospital waste are the most dangerous type of waste because apart from being environmental hazards they can transmit diseases such as HIV therefore they ought to be segregated and dispose well.

How do we tackle the fastest growing waste stream on the planet?
While digitalisation is bringing numerous benefits, it's also causing an unprecedented wave of e-waste. This is dangerous because e-waste contains a number of toxic components hazardous for the environment and human health.
However, e-waste is often rich in precious minerals, including gold, silver, platinum and copper. Right now, electronics companies spend a fortune buying and processing precious and rare minerals, only to see them buried in landfills.
We must start reusing, refurbishing or recycling e-waste. It is both strategic - is a world of resource scarcity and growing demand - as well as environmentally friendly since it could avoid tonnes of emissions.

GREAT NEWS: ‘Biggest step forward on climate ever’: US President signs Landmark Climate Bill worth $369 billion to fight climate change!
It is the beginning of the HOPE we have all hoped for.
Let us rejoice and be glad - because this 'landmark climate bill' benefits the entire world, creating that acceleration needed to mitigate against the frequenting GHG emission-induced intense disasters.
Let other Nations follow this beautiful example, why not?
GOOD NEWS! The world is now beginning to seriously amplify the removal of already emitted greenhouse gases. This is key to avert frequenting GHG emission induced intense disasters ravaging the entire world.

Food waste. Many of us believe this type of waste is not harmful to our environment. It is organic right? So, it will be absorbed by nature as many of us believe. Plastic waste, however, is harmful, and we should not pollute our environment with single-use plastic items. Much media attention is given to this plastic waste subject around the globe. But sending just 1kg of food waste to landfill, produces the same carbon emissions as landfilling a staggering 25,000 500ml plastic bottles. When composing a waste management strategy, please take into account food waste.
