According to the IPCC, the concentration of greenhouse gases in the earth’s atmosphere is directly linked to the average global temperature on Earth, and the concentration has been rising steadily. The most abundant greenhouse gas, accounting for about two-thirds of greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide, is largely the product of burning fossil fuels.
There is alarming evidence that important tipping points, leading to irreversible changes in major ecosystems and the planetary climate system, may already have been reached or passed. One of the most urgent challenges facing countries across the world today is how to achieve economic prosperity and development while also combating climate change.
The Paris climate change agreement commits nations to limit global temperature rise to no more than 2°C above pre-industrial levels, with countries pledging to cut or curb their greenhouse gas emissions – through a combination of mitigation and adaptation measures – by 2030.

UNICEF: An Unstoppable Force for Change in the Lives of Our Precious Children Around the World...
Since the UN International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) was first established in the aftermath of World War II, these wonderful people have been at the frontlines of humanitarian crises, armed conflict and natural disasters. Undeterred by the scale of the crises, they have risen to every challenge, reimagining what is possible and responding by helping millions of children survive and thrive. Their on-the-ground expertise has reached more than 191 countries and territories, through committed partnerships and a passion for innovation (UNICEF, 2022).
For 75+ years, UNICEF has been working tirelessly for child rights and for the well-being of every child. UNICEF is the world’s largest provider of vaccines, and supports children's health and nutrition, safe water and sanitation, quality education and skill building, HIV prevention and treatment for mothers and babies, and the protection of children and adolescents from violence and exploitation.
The COVID-19 pandemic has raised concerns about the mental health of a generation of children. But the pandemic may represent the tip of a mental health iceberg – an iceberg we have ignored for far too long (UNICEF, 2021). The State of the World’s Children 2021 examines child, adolescent and caregiver mental health. It focuses on risks and protective factors at critical moments in the life course and delves into the social determinants that shape mental health and well-being. It calls for commitment, communication and action as part of a comprehensive approach to promote good mental health for every child, protect vulnerable children and care for children facing the greatest challenges (UNICEF, 2021). __ https://www.unicef.org/ https://www.unicef.org/about-unicef https://www.unicef.org/coronavirus/covid-19 https://www.unicef.org/where-we-work https://www.unicef.org/reports/state-worlds-children-2021 https://www.unicef.org/media/112536/file/HAC-2022-Overview.pdf https://www.unicef.org/sdgs https://www.voicesofyouth.org/ https://www.unicef.org/careers/explore-careers-unicef https://www.unicef.org/reports/state-global-education-crisis https://www.unicef.org/reports https://www.unicef.org/careers/

Humans have had an unprecedented impact on land – with vast consequences for climate change, food systems and biodiversity, a major new UN report concludes.
It says that human activities have already altered 70% of the Earth’s land surface, degrading up to 40% of it. Four of the nine “planetary boundaries” – limits on how humans can safely use Earth’s resources – have already been exceeded.
In this article, Carbon Brief walks through five key takeaways from the UN’s milestone Global Land Outlook Report.

Announcing World Environment Day, 5 June 2022...
World Environment Day 2022 is the biggest international day for the environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), and held annually since 1973, it has grown to be the largest global platform for environmental outreach - celebrated by millions of people across the globe. This year's celebration is hosted by Sweden and “Only One Earth" is the campaign slogan, with the focus on “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature” (UNEP, 2022).
“Only One Earth” was the slogan for the 1972 Stockholm Conference; 50 years on, this truth still holds – this planet is our only home. With nature in emergency mode, this year's #OnlyOneEarth campaign urges each of us to celebrate the planet through collective environmental action. #OnlyOneEarth advocates for transformative environmental change on a global scale. The campaign shines a spotlight on climate action, nature action and pollution action while encouraging everyone, everywhere to live sustainably (UNEP, 2022).
While our individual consumption choices do make a difference, it is collective action that will create the transformative environmental change we need, so we can advance to a more sustainable and just Earth, where everyone can flourish. Please share your events and actions by taking part in the Earth Action Numbers, and using #OnlyOneEarth and #WorldEnvironmentDay on social media (UNEP, 2022). ___ https://www.un.org/en/observances/environment-day https://www.unep.org/ https://action.worldenvironmentday.global/ https://www.worldenvironmentday.global/get-involved/practical-guide https://www.worldenvironmentday.global/get-involved/resources https://www.worldenvironmentday.global/latest/live-updates https://trello.com/b/7EYjAExk/world-environment-day-2022 https://www.worldenvironmentday.global/latest/associated-events https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CIPLOajR58 https://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/imagegallery/image_feature_1298.html https://www.nasa.gov/feature/90-years-of-our-changing-views-of-earth/ https://explorer1.jpl.nasa.gov/galleries/earth-from-space/ https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/article/150721-pictures-eart… https://www.nasa.gov/image-feature/nasa-captures-epic-earth-image https://www.nasa.gov/feature/amazing-earth-satellite-images-from-2021/

Intelligent Revolutions, a Possible Solution for Global Crises
Today, all human-caused crises such as climate change, military conflicts, vaccine injustice, racism, sexism, et cetera are deeply connected to human nature. Our endless hunger for something free, for example, has led to exploiting natural resources in such a greedy way as to bring about massive extinction everywhere, potentially causing our own extinction. Why are most people reluctant to take action against the climate crisis? It's probably because candidates will hardly become leaders if asking the voters to do more work or to make less money. Besides, is it fair for a few nations to protect the global environment arduously while the rest of the world seems motionless? Is it necessary for a few individuals to sacrifice modern comforts for human future while a growing number of drug addicts, alcoholics and gluttons are wasting much more resources than the few can possibly save? I think intelligence holds the key to overcoming the dark side of human nature and to promoting the bright side. Making continuous improvements on mental ability is our only way to survive and to thrive in the long term. Without major advances on intelligence in general population, I'm afraid that most would just keep doing business as usual in the midst of global warming. To make great leaps in our brainpower, intelligent revolutions are urgently needed. To start the revolutions, I suggest providing everybody with so many books and films in digital form that most people would enjoy art and science for a whole life. All creative works should be free for everyone while their intellectual property must be protected. If intelligent species ever fail in survival, it’s only because they haven’t got enough time to become intelligent enough. Let’s start intelligent revolutions sooner than later.

Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) Expands Engagement Activities Supporting Nature-risk Framework Development
At this week's World Economic Forum in Davos, the TNFD announced three engagement initiatives, involving further stakeholders in the design and development of TNFD's recommendations.
▶ Six TNFD Consultation Groups in Australia & New Zealand, India, Japan, Netherlands, Switzerland, United Kingdom ▶ Four piloting program partnerships: FSD Africa, Global Canopy, UNEP FI, WBCSD ▶ Engagement of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities globally in partnership with IUCN
Regarding the third point, Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) steward much of the world’s natural resources and play a vital role in safeguarding nature. Their communities are also highly dependent on nature for their livelihoods and Indigenous-led enterprises are often pioneers in sustainable business models. TNFD is partnering with IUCN to engage with IPLCs and ensure their voices are included in the development of the TNFD Framework.
