In north of Italy this winter it didn't rain nor snow for more than three months. The Po river was at its lowest level ever recorded, putting at serious risk the crops of the highly-famed Pianura Padana region. The air quality of cities such as Turin or Milan was below safety levels for weeks.
The water in my house is sourced by a local mountain spring - one day in February it simply stopped flowing and we had to transport water by truck. At the same time, wildfires spread across Italian southern regions nearly every summer now - it is not even in the news anymore.
There are many, many reasons why I am concerned about the state of the environment in my country and that's why I am determined to take action, talk with people, try to live a more environmentally conscious life and actively work toward a healthier environment.

As we celebrate the anniversary of Stockholm +50, we must ask ourselves a long-overdue question: How can we make “sustainable development” a reality for all?
In her insightful blog, Najma Mohamed states that if we are serious about reforming our economies and societies, we must follow 5 key principles:
1. Recognise that our economies are dependent on nature 2. Adopt the principles of a green and fair economy 3. Identify key interventions to deliver an inclusive green economy 4. Ensure that all voices are heard in delivering an inclusive transition 5. Renew the social contract to spur economic transformation

Peace is an essential element of sustainable development. In early June, when the international community gathers at Stockholm+50 to reflect on progress in sustainable development, the outstanding gaps and challenges, and to discuss the way forward, peace matters. It is time — indeed, past time — to formally acknowledge the central role of peace in sustainable development and to take specific, concrete measures to incorporate these linkages in our policies, institutions, finances, and practices.

On the other hand, manpower has serious consequences for the environment, with economic activities being the main cause of its degradation. In fact, large factories are the main causes of pollution at the atmospheric level, as well as in water. They generate gigantic amounts of toxic waste and substances harmful to living things. They also consume natural resources in a constant way.
